BIOGRAFÍA
(ESP)
BIOGRAPHY
(ENG)
I grew up in my father's studio, a drawing teacher and landscapes artist in oil with a palette knife. His love for comics motivated me to study Fine Arts (University of La Laguna, Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) 91-95; finishing the last year with the Erasmus scholarship project in Belgium (Antwerp 95-96).
Before the digital era in underwater cameras, when I got out of the water I copied from memory into my sketchbook the images of fish, types of blues and human bodies bathing. Later on, disposable analog underwater cameras allowed me to calmly analyze this feeling of infinite weightlessness until in 2001 the combination of abstract water backgrounds with oil humans resulted for me the solution of the "light-heavy" dichotomy. .
An environmentalist tone will always be present in my work since then, where Nature occupies more space on the canvas than humans to maintain the balance that it should be in the real world.
Over the years I have been unraveling what water means to me, emotional states that vary according to the postures of the protagonists, their loneliness or company, the light or darkness of their backgrounds... which leads me to experiment with red, passionate waters, always with couples, as well as the black waters of Abysal, a journey to the inner waters where unconscious fears dwell, heavily influenced by Carl Jung's shadow theory and that of David R. Hawkins on external pollution as a reflection of internal pollution.
Currently I combine underwater portraits for private clients and small format works (Cubitos and Esquinas de Agua) with the investigation of the process of the work itself.
