BIOGRAFÍA
(ESP)
State Art Museum, New York.
BIOGRAPHY
(ENG)
Nuria Meseguer's artwork (1973, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) arises from a desire to represent plastically what began as a game from childhood in the workshop of her father, a landscape artist with a spatula.
She went from watercolors to oil in her Fine Arts degree (Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife), giving way to the underwater series for which she is known, where she combines both techniques to represent the weightlessness of bodies in the immense blue abstraction of Nature, maintaining in his "environmentalist" works that balance now lost due to actual "development".
In the 90s she memorized the underwater bodies in her sketchbook, later facilitating the process with disposable underwater cameras and finally with digital ones from 2005, where she began to delve into the psychological facet of the work.
Since her first individual exhibition (El Almacén, Lanzarote 2002), water has been the backdrop where the different emotional states unfold, which vary according to the postures of the protagonists and the colors of the sea that surrounds them.
Thus, the blues, light or deep, the passionate reds alternate in her career, as well as the dramatic blacks of 'Abysal' (2017), her last solo show at the SAC (Sala de Arte Contemporáneo, Tenerife), a journey into internal waters where unconscious fears live, a paintings based on C. Jung's Shadow Theory and David R. Hawkins's on external pollution as a reflection of internal pollution.
In her exclusive dedication to art for 30 years, she has won several first prizes and nine individual exhibitions in Canary Islands, reviews on her work in national and international art magazines such as L'Art del'Aquarelle or Geo, as well as collective exhibitions at Gallerie Harinxma (Holland. 2015), Art3F Bourdeaux 4ª Edition (France, 2018), Present Art Space Gallery (Florence, Italy. 2012), and City Hall Montmartre (France, 2009), at Principal Sombreres Gallery (Barcelona, 2002 ), Sui Géneris Gallery (Ibiza, 2004-2005), in Madrid at the MadaPrimavesi gallery (2011) and Palacio Cibeles (2016), and in Antwerp, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Belgium, 1996).
A large-format work commissioned for the art collections of the Plattsburgh State Art Museum, New York will soon be exhibited.
She currently works mostly commissioned with underwater portraits, in addition to small-format works and the investigation of the process of the work itself.
